Carol Service 2011

The Carol Service this year was held jointly with the Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames. The
idea of a joint service reverts back to the time when Archdeacon Brian Kirk-Duncan was Chaplain to several Companies including the Bakers and the Watermen but this year was brought about by the poor attendances experienced previously.

This year the Church was full and the congregation enjoyed the service and the festive music presided over by the Rev'd Bertrand Olivier who is Chaplain to both of our Companies. Bakers' Hall was also full for the reception afterwards where those attending enjoyed a stroganoff or fish pie followed by mince tarts and Christmas cake complimented by mulled wine. The Christmas cake was made by the Master Baker's Lady to an old family recipe handed down through several generations of the Schruers family from the famous Georges Auguste Escoffier.

Seen here are the Masters of the two Companies wishing those attending a Happy Christmas.

The event was oversubscribed due to the limitation of numbers on the premises license and this resulted in a waiting list for tickets from both Companies. A timely reminder perhaps for members to submit their pro-forma as quickly as possible upon receipt.
