On the 28th
November 2016, 261 Liverymen and Guests attended the Company’s Election Service at All Hallows-by-the-Tower followed by the Election Banquet held at the Mansion House in the City of London in the presence of the Lord Mayor Locum Tenens, Alderman Ian Luder CBE (Lord Mayor 2009) and the Sheriffs. The Company’s Honorary Chaplain, the Reverend Bertrand Olivier, conducted the service and the Select Preacher was the Reverend Prebendary Rose Hudson-Wilson of St Mary-at-Hill, Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons.
The banquet was presided over by the Master, Mr Colin Reese QC, who proposed the Civic Toast during which he presented a celebration cake to the Lord Mayor Locum Tenens who received it on behalf of the Lord Mayor - who has been the organist at the St James Garlickhythe church for 35 years! The cake was made by the students of the National Bakery School at the London South Bank University under the direction of Elaine Thomson, and was the subject of a tweet
from the Lord Mayor the following morning.
The Toast to the Guests was proposed by Liveryman Max Elvidge and was responded to by the Baroness Hale of Richmond DBE PC QC FBA, Deputy President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom
, who proposed the traditional Toast to the Company.
At the conclusion of the evening the Master Elect, Mr Patrick Wilkins CLJ, was installed as Master of the Company for the ensuing year.
