There were two proud Bakers' Liverymen at a Conferment of Degrees ceremony held on 7th December 2011 at Westminster City Hall. Two lady members of the Company graduated from Queen Mary, University of London on the same day.
Liveryman Peter Munday, accompanied by his wife, witnessed the degree of Master of Laws being conferred on his daughter, Freeman Zara Munday. Zara obtained her first degree, an LLB, at the University of Kent and having now obtained an LLM, she is studying at Law School to enter practice as a solicitor. Zara (right) is seen here having the degree conferred by the Principal of Queen Mary, Professor Simon Gaskell.

The other proud Liveryman was Past Master and Clerk John Tompkins, also accompanied by his wife, who saw his daughter, Liveryman and Court Steward Alexandra Tompkins, receive the degree of Doctor of Philosophy for her thesis "The English Catholic Issue, 1640-1662, Factionalism, Perceptions and Exploitation". Alexandra obtained a 'First' for her first degree in history at Queen Mary and subsequently obtained her MA in Historical Research with Distinction at Birkbeck College. She is now working at Queen Mary and at Cambridge Universities. Alexandra (left) is seen here listening to the citation of her thesis being read to the assembled company.
It would seem that never before has the Company had two members, who both joined by Patrimony, as Graduands at the same ceremony and from the same Unversity College.
Congratulations to them both.
